What is the powder on the latex balloons

Modified on Fri, 16 Jan at 2:14 PM

The powder on balloons is called talc, a fine, natural mineral used to prevent balloons from sticking together. It tends to be more noticeable on dark or black balloons. The amount of talc applied can vary depending on the season, as temperature and humidity affect how much powder is needed. Balloons at the bottom of the machine during bagging may also appear more powdery due to settling.

Health Note: Talc is safe to touch and handle. Some people may be sensitive or allergic to talc, which can cause mild skin or respiratory irritation. Like with any fine dust, it’s best to avoid breathing it in directly. Balloons should be kept out of reach of small children as a precaution.
