What is a CVV number?

Modified on Thu, 19 Dec at 11:29 AM

A CVV2 code is a three-digit code located on the back of a credit card or after the credit card number on the signature strip of a Visa, MasterCard, and Discover card (see images below).

American Express cardholders can locate a four-digit code on the front of the card above the account number. This code serves the same purpose as a CVV2 code.
